From stock car engines to tractor engines, if it contained cams, pistons and all the other parts to form an engine, Red seemed to be blessed in making the parts sing in unison a little better than anyone else. When you wanted that extra winning horsepower, many race teams turned to Red.
March 14, Don Lee, a longtime employee of Cornett Racing Engines, died yesterday following a brief battle with liver cancer. He was Lee worked the parts counter, among other duties, during two stretches spanning nearly 15 years for the venerable engine builder.
According to Cornett Racing Engines founder Jack Cornett, Lee was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer six weeks ago. He last worked in the engine shop in early February. He handled a lot of things that I didn't have to. A lot of people knew him, a lot of racers, all of our vendors, because he ordered all the parts. He truly was one of the hardest working, most dedicated guys at his job that I've ever had work for us.
He took serious pride in his job and he went above and beyond a lot of times. Cornett said Lee's first stint with the company beginning in the '90s or maybe the late '80s lasted nearly a decade. He was a great racing fan. He loved Dirt Late Model racing. He loved racing and that's really why he liked working for us. The elder Cornett continued working until his death at the age of January 27, Congratulations Red Waka Motorsport!

The year-old star from Union, Ky. Lanigan rewrote the circuit's record book en route to becoming the second two-time WoO LMS titlist since He established new standards for wins in a single season 15consecutive victories six and alltime triumphs 41leaving the typically reserved driver even more at a loss for words. Last month we documented the construction of a unique Super Late Model chassis with a truck arm rear suspension by our friends at Hess Racing Products.
But just like eating only half of a peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich, why stop when you've got a good thing going? So we hung around while body hanging specialist Jim Callard, owner of MetalMaster Custom Fabrication, and the Hess' crew hung the body and fabricated the interior tin.
The ABC formula is a template so that every make, even from different body manufacturers, will have similar aerodynamic characteristics to improve racing on the track.
Because all the bodies from the different manufacturers have to race approximately the same, the real determining factor on which body you choose will be looks and ease of installation—as well as repair.
We were particularly impressed with how well thought-out the body kit from AR Bodies is. AR sells a wide variety of accessories to aid installation. While none are mandatory in order to install a quality race car body, they all save time and energy by eliminating a lot of fabrication and really do help the final product look better.
Hanging a body can be tough because if you are new to it, it's almost like you have to work from all four corners at once, but everything on this project went smoothly. It was easy. Following, we've documented some of the high points as Callard hung the body and the crew from Hess Racing Products finished the interior, the radiator box and other detail work.
We think there are plenty of great tips here that should be helpful whether you are hanging an entire body or simply making repairs to your existing shell. A special thank you to MetalMaster Custom Fabrication This, obviously, doesn't have much to do with body hanging, but we did want to leave you with this shot of the dash panel Hess installed for driver Will Kimmel.
The main gauge is a Longacre Accutech data logging tach, and to the right is a super lightweight four-gauge panel. We like the clean installation without having to build a complex dash. MetalMaster Custom Fabrication Jeff Huneycutt writer.
